What does Mother’s Day mean to you? Each and every one of us will have a different opinion, thought or feeling about Mother’s Day.
My many mixed emotions of Mother’s Day
Memories – Wonderful memories of Mum, our grandmother,my mother-in-law, our sister and friends. I love that I have been surrounded by strong women that have made such an impression on my life. I have had the honour and privilege to know, live with, work with, love and be influenced by some truly amazing women.
Sadness – I miss them, not only the women that are no longer here but the ones that I no longer see. Friendships that have drifted by the wayside are sometimes harder to deal with than our loved ones passing.
Happiness and Joy – The happiest day in my life was the day I gave birth to our son. I don’t think there are words to describe what it is like to be a mother. I looked down at that little face, those little fingers and I knew this tiny being would have such an impact on my life. I didn’t always do it right.
And I know I have made mistakes along the way and do not doubt I will make mistakes in the future. However I have and will always love my son. The pride I feel when just thinking about him is at times overwhelming and emotions start to leak from my eyes.
Hope – My hope is that I am a positive and supportive influence in our son’s life and that he always knows how much I love him.
Surprise – As the years go by I am surprised by how much Mother’s Day means to me. Once upon a time I thought it was just a “money making day for businesses” however now I realise it is a great day to honour our loved ones. Don’t get me wrong – each and every day I feel the emotions I mentioned above but it is good to have a day to celebrate them.
